There was no direct upgrade path from CS2.0 to 2008, so I had to run some scripts to upgrade the database to 2.1 then run the migration tool to upgrade to 2008, skipping 2007 completely. My customized theme is no longer supported so I'm not sure what we're going to do for visuals yet.

Chaocracy.com is now live!

I bought the domain name quite a while ago but never set anything up here until now. I gotta be honest, I was sorta waiting for Community Server to be a bit easier to wrangle. Way back in the before time I had played around with .Text (.Text merged with nGallery and ASP.NET Forums to become Community Server) a bit and then later I set up a few CS sites but 2.0 is the version that finally seems to be worth running.

To be fair I do still have a few issues with the product, like it doesn't work properly with Visual Studio 2005 Web Projects (which means I can't use my normal method for managing "web projects", making integration into other ASP.NET 2.0 sites rather difficult) and it stores site-generated content in the "live web" folders (which opens up the possability that a file could easily get overwritten). From what I understand 2.1 isn't a 100% ASP.NET 2.0 application but 3.0 will be. Heh, however by the time 3.0 comes out I'm sure we'll all be working with .NET 3.0 and wondering why CS 3.0 is only a .NET 2.0 app!

Anyway, welcome to the site! There's literally nothing to see here yet but I'm planning to turn this site into a .NET resource site possibly featuring game server emulation news and resources.

I haven't decided on the server emulation stuff yet though. I'm mostly worried about legal issues and the whole "grey legality" of the scene. However there is a big gap in web coverage as most of the sites have either been foxed or gone down for other reasons. Either way I'm sure this site will turn into a decent .NET resource over the next few months.

For those looking for my personal blog, I haven't started it yet. I haven't decided if I'm going to run it from this site or if I'm going to make an entirely new site just for my personal stuff. The ideal solution is to wait for CS 2.1 to come out and use the new syndication stuff to get a blog I write on another site into this site's front page news, but I dunno if I want to wait for 2.1 so I might just start blogging off this site and deal with the pain of moving the posts later.

Meanwhile you can check out my mega-non-updated homepage.
